Why we exist
Two million people in the UK live with a food allergy. Eating out means trusting a menu, a server, and a kitchen you can't see - often from a line that reads "may contain".
Safebites replaces the hedge with a clear answer. We don't tell you to "check with staff". We show you the allergens, the safety state for your profile, and exactly how confident the kitchen is in that claim.
Built for trust
Colour is never the only thing telling you a dish is safe. Three other independent signals back it up - so the call holds for colour-blind diners, in greyscale, and at a glance.
Shape
Circle, square or triangle. Legible even with the colour stripped out, and in print.
Glyph
A tick, a dash or a cross sits inside the shape - a second, independent read.
Label
Plain words: "Safe to eat", "Cross-contamination risk", "Contains peanut". No jargon.
Colour
Teal for safe, amber for caution, oxblood for unsafe. Never the only signal - always the fourth.
How it works
Point your phone at the Safebites code on the table or the menu. No app to download, no account to create first.
Tell us your allergens once. Every dish is checked against them - not a generic warning, a call made for you.
Each dish shows a clear safety state, the allergens it carries, and how the kitchen verified it.
The standard
We use two-letter monograms, not lookalike pictograms. At 16px on a menu row, a peanut and a tree nut shouldn't read as the same brown blob. Each disc announces its full allergen name to a screen reader.
Confidence, shown on every claim
A sensible read from the recipe. The starting point.
The kitchen has checked and confirmed the dish.
Traced to the supplier's own allergen data.
For restaurants
Meet Natasha's Law with less effort, cut the risk of a bad call, and give allergy diners a reason to choose you.
