About
Allergen safety should be plain, not a leap of faith.
Safebites is built on one belief: when a wrong call can put someone in hospital, the answer has to be clear, honest, and impossible to misread.
Eating out with an allergy means trusting a chain you can't see - a supplier, a recipe, a busy kitchen, a server relaying a question. Today that trust rests on laminated sheets and the phrase "may contain", which protects the venue far more than the diner.
We think that's backwards. Safebites takes the kitchen's real allergen data and turns it into a clear safety call for each diner's own profile - with the confidence behind every claim shown openly. Trustworthy and clinical, without being cold.
We build to the UK Food Information Regulations and treat Natasha's Law as the floor, not the finish line.
What we hold to
-
Allergen status is never a guess
Three states, four redundant signals, every time. If we can't be clear, we say caution - we never paper over a risk.
-
Colour is never the only signal
Shape, glyph and label carry the message too, so the call holds for colour-blind diners, in print, and in a hurry.
-
Plain words over legalese
"Contains peanut", not "may contain traces". The hedge protects the kitchen; the clear answer protects the diner.
-
The kitchen's confidence, shown
Estimated, chef-confirmed or supplier-verified. We never dress up a guess as a guarantee.
